Pantanal Brazil & Bonito: Two Extraordinary Nature Destinations
The Pantanal and Bonito offer two very different but complementary nature experiences in Brazil.
Bonito is famous for its crystal-clear rivers, caves, waterfalls and snorkeling experiences, while the Pantanal is one of the world’s largest tropical wetlands and one of the best places in South America for wildlife observation.
Starting from Campo Grande, this itinerary combines the aquatic landscapes of Bonito with the open wetlands, traditional fazendas and wildlife of the Southern Pantanal.
During the journey, travelers can enjoy snorkeling, nature walks, horseback riding and canoe excursions while discovering some of the most spectacular landscapes in Mato Grosso do Sul.
Day 1 – Campo Grande to Bonito
Upon arrival in Campo Grande, collect your travel documents and rental vehicle before driving to Bonito, one of Brazil’s leading ecotourism destinations. Upon arrival, check in at your pousada and enjoy the rest of the day at leisure.
Overnight in Bonito.
Day 2 – Bonito & Rio Sucuri
Enjoy a full day exploring Bonito and its natural attractions. We recommend visiting the Gruta do Lago Azul and snorkeling in the crystal-clear waters of Rio Sucuri.
The exceptional transparency of the river creates the sensation of swimming inside a giant natural aquarium surrounded by fish and aquatic vegetation.
Overnight in Bonito.
Day 3 – Bonito to the Southern Pantanal
After breakfast, depart for the Southern Pantanal, approximately two hours from Bonito.
Along the way, an optional stop can be made at the Boca da Onça private reserve, where a 4 km trail leads through a series of waterfalls and natural pools.
Continue to the Pantanal and check in at Fazenda Baia Grande.
Dinner and overnight at the fazenda.
Days 4 & 5 – Pantanal Wildlife Experience
Spend two days exploring the Pantanal with a local expert guide.
Depending on local conditions, activities may include guided walks, horseback riding and canoe excursions through this unique wetland ecosystem.
These excursions offer excellent opportunities to observe the landscapes, birdlife and wildlife of the Pantanal.
Meals and overnight stays at Fazenda Baia Grande.
Day 6 – Pantanal to Campo Grande
After breakfast at the fazenda, drive back to Campo Grande according to your flight schedule.
Return your rental vehicle at the airport before continuing to your next destination.
The journey takes approximately four hours.
Best Time to Visit the Pantanal in Brazil
The Pantanal changes dramatically throughout the year. The dry season is generally considered one of the best periods for wildlife observation, while the wetter months transform the landscape into vast flooded plains.
The best time to visit depends on your interests, but travelers looking for wildlife and easier access to trails often prefer the drier months.

Wildlife is one of the main reasons to visit the Pantanal. This vast wetland provides habitat for an extraordinary variety of animals and bird species.
Depending on the season and location, travelers may encounter capybaras, caimans, giant anteaters, monkeys and many species of colorful birds.
